About Department

The department of Physics was established in the year 1979. The UG courses offered in the department are B.Sc. I, B.Sc. II under CBCS Pattern of Shivaji University Kolhapur. At B.Sc.III level CBCS pattern will be implemented from 2020. In addition to regular courses, the department also runs a Career Oriented Course entitled "Information & Computer Technology" which was initially funded by UGC. This course is of six months duration and now run by college on its own funds.

The department has adequate teaching and non-teaching faculty is working hard to achieve academic excellence in imparting education to UG students by providing e – learning resources in the form of e- books available in the N list data base, carrying out online test and tutorials , encouraging students to participate in extracurricular and co – curricular activities such as quiz competition, poster presentation, study tours and industrial visits etc. The department is also having departmental library which is helpful in conducting open book test.

The department has well equipped laboratories at UG level and advanced scientific equipments are made available through funding sanctioned by UGC, DST – FIST and RUSA from time to time. The department has MoUs with Walchand College Sangli and Sanjay Ghodawat University, Atigre (Kolhapur) which have helped to carry out student and faculty exchange program from time to time.

 Objectives

  • To impart quality education in Physics at UG level.
  • To develop research culture amongst students.
  • To encourage students to participate in various competitive examinations.
  • To provide high quality academic ambience to socially and economically downtrodden students from Khanapur area.
  • To carry out outrich activities helpful to local society.

Course Outcome

Course outcome (B.Sc.)
Three year Integrated degree course, Semester pattern.

  • Students will be able to explain wrong concepts in society about plants, stars, eclipses, galaxies with the knowledge of Astrophysics.
  • Students will be able to learn the Fundamental Concept of Computers, Inputs, Outputs and Operating System.
  • Students will be able to expertise in handling the various software on Personal computers as well as on mobile also.
  • Students will be able to learn basics of computer, their construction, working and their applications.
  • On successful completion of this course the students becomes familiar with the programming in C Language.

Program Specific outcome

  • Understand problems and independently propose solutions using various mathematical tools acquired through interdisciplinary experiences, and goes to the depth and breadth of knowledge/expertise in the Physics.
  • Students will be able to apply the scientific method to questions/issues in social / rural areas by developing techniques, methods to overcome that issues.
  • Students will be able to use/ handle equipment’s which are used in the research in Physics and becomes familiar with this.
