AbouT Department

            The department of Zoology is established in 1983. The department has run the zoology course for B.Sc. I , II and III classes. Through enquiry, exploration and experiential learning, the department aims to produce graduates fully conversant with biological principles and rigorously trained in skills of reasoning, hypothesis generation, reading and writing, and practical techniques, so that they are competent and versatile in dealing with future demands.    
The department aims to promote varied academic and research programs focused on contemporary issues and basic and applied concepts in Zoology, with particular emphases on the ecology, evolution, physiology, genetics, developmental biology, cell biology and molecular biology and aim to provide consultative expertise in solving problems relating to interactions among humans, plants, animals and the environment.
The department also runs the various short term courses of Vermitechnology and Apiculture. The aim to start this applied courses to provide job and self-employment among the students.
The percentage of results of university examinations of the department is always more than the university results and it approximately 100 percentage every year.
The department has two separate laboratories for B.Sc. students and they are well equipped with advance research instruments viz. PCR, GEL Doc, Electrophoresis unit, etc.

Objectives

  1. To impart the knowledge is the basic aim of education. The students are expected to acquire the knowledge of animal science, natural phenomenon, manipulation of nature & environment by man.
  2. To develop skills in practical work, experiments & laboratory materials, instruments.
  3. To develop interest in the subject & scientific hobbies.
  4. To develop scientific attitude which is the major objective? This makes the students open minded, critical observations, curiosity, thinking etc.
  5. To develop abilities to apply scientific methods, collection of scientific data, problem solving, organize science exhibition, clubs etc.
  6. Appreciation of the subject, contribution of scientists, scientific methods, scientific programs etc.
  7.  To impart the knowledge of animal science to the pupils.
  8.  To make the pupils to use the knowledge in their daily life.
  9. To make the pupils aware of natural resources and environment.
  10.  Application of knowledge in Zoology for nutrition, agriculture & live stock.
  11. To provide practical experiences which form a part of their learning processes.
  12. To develop aptitude for scientific work & ability to pursue studies far beyond graduation.
  13. To encourage the pupils to take life science as a carrier which is the need now adays.
  14.  To make the pupils fit for the society.
